Your first race meeting

Picture of owner driver kart racing

bullet pointYou will need to report to the clubhouse with your kart licence and club membership card. Leave your upgrade card with the competition secretary who will give it to the MSA Steward. The Steward will watch your races and sign your card if he/she feels that you have performed satisfactorily. It is most important that you stay on the track. It will be better if you run slower and finish, than try too hard and spin off! Once you have signed-on, you need to take your kart and race clothing to the Scrutineering area where it will be checked for safety. Your kart should be in race trim including numbers. Once scrutineered, keep your ears open for the announcement about the drivers briefing (the time and place will be indicated in the programme). You must attend!

bullet pointAfter the briefing, practice will take place — this is usually 3 laps. Be sure to be ready well in advance — better to be on the grid early then having to rush and make mistakes or even missing your practice. Your helpers will not be allowed onto the circuit. It is possible for the Cadet and Junior classes that incident marshals can go onto the track, but they must have signed on, wear the tabard provided, and attend a safety briefing.

bullet pointAfter practice and depending on which class you are in, you will either be placed in three heats with grid positions pre-determined to give you roughly a front, middle and back of the grid start, or in some classes qualifying racing will commence. In this case you will have a heat, pre final and final. If you find that you are not on the grid, check with the grid marshal.

bullet pointDo not forget to collect your licence after the meeting from either race control or the MSA Steward (after racing has finished). All being well you will have gained your second of the six signatures which will qualify you for your full licence (you obtain your first signature for completing your ARKS test).

bullet pointIf you need any further help, please do not hesitate to contact the club — tel: 01634 661604.
