Race teams

Of course you can bring your kart and your toolbox to the race meetings and have a great days fun looking after yourself, in fact many people do. Others lack the mechanical know how or simply want to race without getting dirty and that's where teams come in. Buckmore has no connection with any of the listed teams and they are listed alphabetically so nothing should be implied by the order of listing.

Kart classes

Karting really does have classes for almost every age, size and ability from age 6 upwards, but sometimes the sheer number of options can be somewhat confusing. There are basically four different age categories – Bambino, Cadets, Juniors and Seniors. The list below covers the classes that regularly race at Buckmore.

Click below for details of each class.

Bambino and Cadet - ages 6-13yrs

Bambino karting for 6-7 year olds

  • Age: From 6 years to the day of 8th birthday.
  • Kart: Specific Bambino kart chassis.
  • Engine: Comer 50cc
  • Licence: MSA Clubman - available on the day of the event.
  • Equipment: To MSA Blue book and helmet to Snell FIA as per book.

Comer 50cc The Comer 50cc Bambino engine

The Bambino format does not permit any form of racing between competitors and only a set number of karts will be allowed on the circuit at any one time. It is therefore an individual time trial event, with drivers classified and rewarded according to their performance against the track’s ‘target time’ that will have been set by an experienced Cadet driver.

Bambino karting will provide an MSA-sanctioned competitive environment for young karters from their sixth birthday to the day of their eighth birthday. Competitors must hold an MSA kart clubman licence available either on the day or from the MSA.

The Bambino karts must conform to Blue Book regulations, adapted where required to be compatible with the smaller chassis. All competitors must wear Blue Book approved clothing and equipment and the latest Snell-FIA specification helmets that have been produced specifically for young people will be mandatory for all participants.

It is compulsory that prospective Bambino's receive instruction via the Bambino section of the Buckmore Park Kart School (or similar) before entering a race meeting.

Facts and figures

  • Number plates: Yellow/Red
  • Weight kg (with driver) 103kg
  • Ages: 8-13 years
  • Tyres - dry: Dunlop SL3

  • Engine: GX160 4 stroke

Honda gx160

Honda Cadet uses a 4-stroke Gx160 engine which no longer has to be sealed. The long life engines are very low-cost but have to conform to a technical specification. Most but not all clubs will accept these karts.  BPKC race meetings usually field large grids of Honda Cadet and it is a particularly economic way to get your youngster racing.

Honda Cadet Clubman

The Honda Clubman class is for cadets at the beginning of their karting career. Often there are enough entries for the Clubman class to have its own grid but if numbers are lower, they  share the grid with the Honda Cadet class. There is a special engine buy-back scheme in operation to ensure fair play. See Honda Cadet Clubman regulations for details

Iame cadet
